Rare Tibetan Exorcism Mask
Primitive Tibetan Wood Shaman Exorcism mask believed to be a Rare Old Tharu Exorcist/Shaman mask from the Himalayas.
The origin is not clear but this mask probably originates from the Chitwan Region in Nepal.
It is made of Wood, Metal, Leather, Yak Hair and other objects.
This is a very large mask, skillfully carved deep into the wood giving it depth so that it can be worn on the face. The wood appears to be carved from the Bodi tree sacred to Buddists and Taura Animists.
The carver went to extremes in decorating this piece. None of these add-ons detract from the Spiritual power of this mask.
The Tharu people inhabit the Terai Region of Nepal and some areas of Tibet as well.
Shamanic masks like this are used in religious rituals, festivals and exorcisms by Shaman and sometimes Buddist Monks.
Shamanic masks were originally derived from the Totem worshiping of ethnic minorities in North and Western China, Mongolian, Nepal and Tibet.
